Manon Blanchette named Chief Operating Officer at Pointe-\u00e0-Calli\u00e8re <\/h2>\n

Montr\u00e9al, December 9, 2012 \u2014 Francine Leli\u00e8vre, Executive Director of Pointe-\u00e0-Calli\u00e8re, the Montr\u00e9al Museum of Archaeology and History, is pleased to announce the appointment of Manon Blanchette to the position of Chief Operating Officer. She will take up her post on January 31, 2012, and will be responsible for overseeing the Museum\u2019s operations. <\/p>\n

Manon Blanchette has extensive experience in the museum field and the cultural sector, as well as in public administration and corporate finance. An art historian with a doctorate from the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, until just recently she held the position of Executive Director at the Board of Montr\u00e9al Museum Directors. She also previously held the positions of Chief Curator and Director of Communications and Marketing at the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al. She was also a diplomat serving as a Cultural Advisor at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, where she headed the Canadian Cultural Centre. Still active on an international level, she is currently the President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Canada) and President of its AVICOM international committee (International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound).<\/p>\n

She is taking up her duties as the Museum gets ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2012 with a program of activities and events that will be taking place all year long. Last year, the Museum also began a large-scale expansion project, Phase 1 of which includes the refurbishment of the Mariners House, scheduled to open in 2012. In the longer term, by 2017, the Museum intends to create The Archaeology and History Complex, a world-class cultural complex spread over nine sites in Old Montr\u00e9al. <\/p>\n

About Pointe-\u00e0-Calli\u00e8re<\/h3>\n

Pointe-\u00e0-Calli\u00e8re<\/a> is the only major archaeology museum in all of Qu\u00e9bec and Canada; its museum complex rises above a concentrated number of national historical and archaeological sites that illustrate key parts of the history of Montr\u00e9al, Qu\u00e9bec, and Canada. It was inaugurated in 1992, on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the founding of Montr\u00e9al. Pointe-\u00e0-Calli\u00e8re\u2019s mission is to raise awareness and foster an appreciation of Montr\u00e9al\u2019s history, and to forge bonds with regional, national, and international networks concerned with archaeology, history, and urban issues. <\/p>\n
