Manon Blanchette named Chief Operating Officer at Pointe-à-Callière

Montréal, December 9, 2012 — Francine Lelièvre, Executive Director of Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History, is pleased to announce the appointment of Manon Blanchette to the position of Chief Operating Officer. She will take up her post on January 31, 2012, and will be responsible for overseeing the Museum’s operations.

Manon Blanchette has extensive experience in the museum field and the cultural sector, as well as in public administration and corporate finance. An art historian with a doctorate from the Université du Québec à Montréal, until just recently she held the position of Executive Director at the Board of Montréal Museum Directors. She also previously held the positions of Chief Curator and Director of Communications and Marketing at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. She was also a diplomat serving as a Cultural Advisor at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, where she headed the Canadian Cultural Centre. Still active on an international level, she is currently the President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Canada) and President of its AVICOM international committee (International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound).

She is taking up her duties as the Museum gets ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2012 with a program of activities and events that will be taking place all year long. Last year, the Museum also began a large-scale expansion project, Phase 1 of which includes the refurbishment of the Mariners House, scheduled to open in 2012. In the longer term, by 2017, the Museum intends to create The Archaeology and History Complex, a world-class cultural complex spread over nine sites in Old Montréal.
